sendMessagesToProcess Step

Use this step to send message to WaitForMessage process step.

Description:

This step sends messages to specific process instances with the “WaitForMessage” step. The process instance ID of the other workflow is a prerequisite. 

 

Inputs

  • waitMessage – Messages to send
  • InstanceID – Enter process Instance ID
 

 

Returns

  • True – step executed successfully
  • False – step failed to execute 
 

 

Prerequisite:

Let’s assume the below process is executed with a new process instance ID 33defd63-4429-4774-9248-3ae5692cc866. This process instance is seen in the Sleeping status at the WaitForMessage step.

Example:

Let’s build and execute the “sendMessagesToProcessDef” example.

  • Create a new definition called “sendMessagesToProcessDef”
  • Select the definition and click the “design” button
  • Drag the above steps to the canvas and connect as above
  • Click the "sendMessagesToProcess" step to configure its "Settings" properties. Provide a name to the step. Provide the message to send. Provide the WaitForMessage workflow process instance GUID value. 

 

  • The “Logging” setting configuration is necessary for documentation and also measures the workflow progress and the percent complete. This is achieved by configuring the step state and percent fields individually, as shown in the images below. Configure the “Logging” using the following properties.

 

  • Save the process definition, create a process instance, and execute.  The SendMessageToProcess step shall publish or send messages to the other process with the “WaitForMessage” step indicating to continue the workflow execution. The other process instance looks as below when rendered.
